SWR’s very own bass ambassador, the "Fretless Monster" himself, Tony Franklin, will be in New York and environs in June, conducting more of his acclaimed bass clinics and touting the sonic virtues of SWR to the bass-hungry masses.

Franklin first became known to many as bassist in seminal ’80s rock group the Firm, featuring guitar legend Jimmy Page in his first post-Led Zeppelin project and Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers. He later played in the supergroup Blue Murder with guitarist John Sykes and drummer Carmine Appice, and has since established himself as a highly sought-after touring and session bassist with a stellar list of credits.

A tireless traveling bass educator and goodwill ambassador, Franklin conducts clinics that are always a delight to those who attend. It’s much more than a live infomercial for the sponsor—Franklin engages the audience in an interactive learning experience covering any subject the participants wish to discuss.

"I cover a lot of ground in the clinics," Franklin said. "I like to keep it real. It’s just me, my signature fretless bass (Fender® just released the Tony Franklin Fretless Precision Bass® guitar earlier this year), a fine display of SWR bass amplification, some smoking tunes (I don't use backing music), stories, tips, info and a lot of heart and soul."

"I welcome questions in the clinic," Franklin added. "I like to get across that being a successful musician is not just about having the right gear and the right licks (though these can certainly help!), but today more than ever, we need to have many more skills under our belts—networking, communication, management, marketing, music production, writing—the list goes on. I don’t necessarily tell people how to do these things, but I like to set the seed for those who are interested. I have personally had some incredible highlights in my career, and some humbling lows. I’m very open and honest when I speak."

"At the end of the day, it still comes back to the fretless bass and the amplification I play through. I love to get people excited about the fretless. And in my opinion, SWR is the best bass gear in the world. I’m not there to sell it, but simply to increase people’s awareness and get them thinking."
